How do I calculate the starting CFR number for my fertilizer or litter spreader?

Answer
Using the following formula will generate an approximate CFR number. This number should only be used to aide in the calibration process.
D x W x H / 1728 = Starting CFR number.
Where:
D = Chain travel in inches per one revolution of the rear roller
W = Actual width of gate opening.
H = Gate Height in Inches.
In fertilizer spreaders, all Mesh Chain (despite width) moves 13.06 inches per revolution.
In litter / lime / compost spreaders, units with 88k chain and six (6) tooth rear rollers, the chain moves 15.75 inches per revolution.
